As is often the case in watchmaking history, the creation of the Overseas is the result of a blend of historical events and collaborations among watchmakers. The creation of the Royal Oak was soon followed by several other iconic high-end sport watches with integrated bracelets, including the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the IWC Ingenieur, both designed by Genta. Not to be outdone, Vacheron Constantin, the oldest watch manufacturer in continuous operation for over 260 years, introduced its own luxury sport watch. To celebrate the brand’s 222nd anniversary, Vacheron presented the “222,” designed by the young Jorg Hysek. Like Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, the 222 marked a radical departure from their traditional dress watches, in an attempt to combat the market flooding with cheap Japanese quartz movement watches.

Over time, the 222 evolved into the 333, which in 1996 was replaced by the now famous Overseas collection. Separated into three phases, the 4500V is part of the third phase introduced in 2016, which added six new versions to the catalog.

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas is one of the most iconic and important watches in history. Like the Royal Oak and Nautilus, it emerged at a critical time for Swiss horology and is part of the reason why beautiful mechanical timepieces are still produced today. However, the history of the Overseas is not its only attractive feature; the watch also boasts one of the most aesthetically pleasing case and bracelet designs. This specific watch, a reference 4500V, is distinguished by its stunning blue dial, often praised as one of the most beautiful in the watchmaking world. The sunburst satin-finished texture enhances its visual appeal, creating a mesmerizing play of light.
